Penn St CC v Chiltern Crusaders CC on Sat 12 May 2018 at 1.00pm
Match was Abandoned Rain
Match report
After last year's historic victory, optimism was rife as we trundled up to Penn St. There was talk of asking opposition to bat on winning the toss and bowling aggressively, and even if we lost the toss expected to be fielding first. A brilliant plan, until Skip lost the toss and, to his surprise, was asked to bat first. Mentally Skip was gone already, and having faced a few balls was clean bowled by a pretty decent ball. Semi took on the responsibility with Mike coming in at 3 (remembering his last knock was 90+ at the end of last season). But then the dreaded Crusaders injury curse re-surfaced, the batting line up reads as follows:
Bartlett - smashed a ball in to his foot, ended up at a&e, no broken bone but significant 'trauma'.
Hodges - tweaked calf muscle, again, on the attempted resumption of play following rain
Mclaughlin - back from a year off from snapped achilles, took off for first run and was immediately limping - it was excruciating watching him from then on, hoping we didn't hear the snap again!
Easterbrook - bad back last year, and had already warned Skip that he'd tweaked it mid week
Finn - perennial bad back, and now a newly diagnosed celiac (revelled in telling us about his first solid poo in 20 years)
Partridge - not out zero, standard!
At 67-4 the rain came and we had an hour and a half for tea. Rhodesey in a blatant show of insubordination (and first to show his hand for COTY) decided he'd had enough and got changed in to his beer clothes. However we had the last laugh there - we attempted to get play going, but lasted 4 balls before the rain came again. Skip and oppo skip agreed to shake hands on abandonment just as Rhodesey reappeared in full whites, padded up ready to go. Sweet.
Footnote: Skip toyed with the idea of not recording the scores up until the abandonment for obvious reasons, but knew it would end up in COTY trouble!
